Machame

Day 1

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be picked up by our representative and taken to the hotel for short briefing and light dinner. Overnight: Parkview Inn (D)

Day 2 (Rest Day)

After a late breakfast you are free to explore Moshi town. You can even visit some of the local attractions which include rice, banana and coffee farms and a carvings market. Overnight: Parkview Inn (B)

Day 3

Drive to the Machame gate after breakfast. From here a gentle climb up through the forest, carpeted with unique  flowers, begonias and ferns to Machame camp. Overnight: Machame Camp

 

 

Day 4

Have an early breakfast and begin your trek through heather moor land to Shira camp. You will pass by an old volcanic crater which is a remnant of Kilimanjaro's volatile history. Overnight: Shira Camp

Day 5

After leaving Shira camp we will ascend to Lava tower at 4700m then descend to Barranco camp for dinner. The vegetation will alternate between alpine desert and heather moorland.  Overnight:Barranco Camp (B,L,T,D)

Day 6

Hike through alpine desert to Barafu camp. On your way you will encounter some steep sections especially when crossing the Barranco wall. You have fantastic views across to Mawenzi peak from the camp. Having completed a long day of hiking you must now adequately relax in preparation of the challenging summit hike early the following morning. Overnight: Barafu Hut, 4600m (B,L,T,D)

Day 7

You will leave Barafu Hut at 1am to climb on steep frozen scree toward your final destination. We aim to go past Gillman’s Point to reach Stella Point on the crater rim for sunrise — another 40 minutes and you’re at the highest point on the continent. We will take a short rest at Uhuru Peak before beginning our descent using the Mweka route. Overnight: Mweka Camp (B,L,T,D)

Day 8

From Mweka camp it is a 5-6 hour descent through the forest to Mweka gate. Here your will collect your certificate and meet your vehicle. Return to Moshi for the night. Overnight: Parkview Inn

Day 9

Say goodbye to Moshi. Transfer to you next destination which might be the relaxing beaches of Zanzibar, a wildlife safari or a return flight home. (B)
